Monday Devotion: Lord, why can't i follow YOU?

Dear Lord,
I know you are my Lord and saviour, i know you become poor so that i may be rich, i know you love me soooooo much that the thoughts you have for me, is that of good only.

Dear Lord, i want to love you back but as much as i try to please YOU, i see myself doing those things that displeases you. I have tried several times to enjoy fellowship with you but somehow i get distracted, sometimes i cried and declare my readiness to follow you but i still see myself deviate and get consumed by the things of the flesh.

Dear Lord, why can't i follow YOU?
This was me sometime ago. Always wanting to know HIM more yet, see myself deviating. The more i tried, the more it seems my effort wasn't good enough. The more i tried to assess myself, the more it seems to me that i am doing the right thing yet wrong by God's standard.

This inner struggle, lasted for awhile until i realized that i wasn't asking God for assessment but rather, doing it myself.

I then realized that, every bride preparing for marriage will do everything within her power to make the marriage hold. She sometimes tell the bridegroom that he should notify her if peradventure he finds a character in her he doesn't like so as to enable her make amends and win the heart of her spouse.

The above illustration, is how christians are supposed to walk with God. We are the bride and HE is the bridegroom and in the process of preparing for this marriage, we should constantly be asking the bridegroom (Jesus Christ) for adjustment incase we feel we are no longer pleasing Him all that we can win His heart.

According to Amos 3:3, it is expedient that as we walk with Him, we should be more like Him.

Unfortunately most christians are not preparing for this marriage neither are they aware of it and as a result, that is why they are not asking for assessment from the bridegroom. Often wonder why a christian once burning for God is now wining and dining with the devel himself? The illustration above as well, could not be far from the truth.

Many are assessing themselves by their own personal discoveries. Lovelies you will agree with me that to examine yourself after dressing up, you need a mirror.

This was why Paul told the corinthians to "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves...." (2 correct. 13:5).

It is good to examine yourself frequently, but you must be careful about the standard or the type of mirror you are using. The best mirror is the word of God

"Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says, is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. "
(James 1:24 NIV).

Let say this simple prayer together.
Lord Jesus, i am sorry for the many times i have failed YOU, for the times i have done things that didn't glorify YOU. Lord Jesus help me to know the right way to follow YOU that i may stop asking why can't i follow YOU. Thank YOU Lord for your grace. In Jesus name we have prayed.

Thanks for reading and please feel free to share i love you all.. Enjoy the new week.
